Exhibitor Guidelines

Display Policy
Thank you for your interest in exhibiting artwork at the Schaumburg Township District Library. We are pleased to display the work of amateur, professional and student artists in our community. We encourage all local artists to exhibit materials of artistic, historical or cultural interest.

STDL reserves display space for all local District 54 elementary and junior high schools, as well as District 211 high schools, for six months of each year. This is an important community outreach that showcases the work of all students.

To APPLY, please read the Exhibitor Guidelines below, and download this Exhibitor Form

You may return the form at the Reception Desk in the Central library lobby, or mail it to Schaumburg Township District Library / 130 S. Roselle Rd. / Schaumburg, IL 60193 / Attn: Tom Javorcic, Director of Graphic Services. For questions about displaying artwork, call (847) 923-3117, or email tjavorcic@stdl.org.

Exhibitor Requirements

Exhibitors may apply by reading this policy and signing an Exhibitor Form which waives responsibility of theft or damage to artwork. We will need the following information:

  Your name and contact information
  Photograph (head shot preferred)
Short biography and/or description of artwork
Sample of work to be used to create a poster for the exhibit
List of all work (title, size, medium, value)

Exhibits from profit-making organizations will not be accepted.

All artwork must be framed. The library provides an easy-to-use metal hanging system.

Exhibitors must have enough material to fill the designated area.  Approximately 25 pieces will fit on the first floor wall.

Please do not display brochures or business cards in your exhibit. STDL will put your contact info (if desired) into your “bio” which will be displayed with the artwork. In addition, people who want to purchase your work must contact you directly.

Exhibits will be displayed for one  month.

Exhibitors set-up and take-down their own displays during the prearranged times. Arrangements can be made for the Graphics department to help.

Exhibitors must honor their space commitment. If an exhibitor cancels at the last minute or does not show up, they will not be allowed to exhibit again in the future.

General Guidelines
Our exhibit space is very popular and gets booked quickly and far in advance. Space is booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Currently the spaces are booked until 2014. When choosing artwork to exhibit, please remember that children and patrons of many cultures and beliefs visit our library each day. All exhibit material is subject to approval by the Graphics Director, Library Director and Library Board of Trustees.

Exhibits are covered by the library’s insurance, but liability is based on the actual cash value, not the value determined by the exhibitor. Actual cash value includes the frame, the canvas and a nominal amount for the actual painting. All exhibitors must sign the waiver stating the library is only responsible for the actual cash value of the materials.

Exhibitors who wish to invite friends and host a reception for their art show are welcome to do this using their own resources. STDL cannot allow refreshments to be served in the library, but there are a number of fine restaurants within walking distance of the library that take reservations for small parties. We ask that exhibitors and their visitors remember that this is a public library and there are often patrons reading quietly in these spaces. Please be considerate of them.
